There's a moment that happens somewhere deep in the backcountry, usually when your legs are burning, your pack is destroying your shoulders, and you're miles from anything comfortable, where everything gets quiet. Not peaceful quiet. Honest quiet. The kind where you can't hide from who you actually are.
That moment changed everything for me.
I've spent over nine years hunting the fields of Minnesota, the prairies of North Dakota, the mountains of Colorado and Montana, and the ranch lands of Texas. But it was out West, deep in elk country with a bow in my hand and nothing but wilderness in every direction, where something clicked. The discipline it takes to prepare for a backcountry elk hunt, the physical conditioning, the mental toughness, the relentless preparation, the ability to make decisions under pressure and keep pushing when everything in you wants to quit, that's not just hunting. That's leadership. And I realized nobody was talking about both in the same breath.
That's why HuntingGrowth exists.
I'm Tyler Notch. I've spent over a decade leading people, more than 170 individuals across my career, through leadership academies, boardrooms, and everything in between. I own and operate two businesses in the outdoor industry: Alexandria Shooting Park, where I serve as Owner and General Manager, and Lakes Area Arms, a full-service firearm and archery shop where I serve as Owner and COO. Leadership isn't something I study from a distance. It's something I live every single day in real environments with real stakes.
But here's what I kept running into, both in my professional world and in the hunting community: guys who were one or the other. Incredible hunters who had no framework for growth beyond the field. High-performing leaders who had completely disconnected from the things that made them feel alive. And an outdoor industry that was more interested in selling you gear and showing you kill shots than actually helping you become better.
I got tired of it.
HuntingGrowth isn't a highlight reel. It's not a gear review channel. It's not a leadership seminar dressed up in camo. It's the honest, unglamorous, deeply personal pursuit of becoming more, as a hunter, as a leader, as a husband, as a father, and as a man of faith. I'm going to share the hard seasons right alongside the successful ones, because growth doesn't happen on the good days. It happens when you're exhausted, when the draw comes back unsuccessful, when the business is hard, when you're not the husband or father you want to be, and you choose to show up anyway.
That's the work this place is built for.
My wife Laura and I have built our life together for over a decade, and we're raising three kids, Ellie, Addie, and Brooks, who remind me every single day why any of this matters. Faith anchors all of it. My daily devotional and time in reflection aren't bonus habits. They're the foundation the rest is built on.
If you've found HuntingGrowth, I don't think it was by accident. I think you're someone who refuses to be one-dimensional. Someone who knows there's more in the tank. Someone who is tired of content that entertains but never challenges you to actually grow.
This is for you.
